Tami Carver
Communications Specialist,
STAT MedEvac Communications Center
Tami is originally from Apple Country USA,
Biglerville, Adams County, just north of historic Gettysburg. She moved to
Pittsburgh, based on recommendations from her friends, to attend the University
of Pittsburgh’s reputable education programs in the medical field. At first,
Tami was enrolled in an athletic training program, but soon discovered a new
program that was being developed. So in 1998, Tami was the first to graduate
from the University of Pittsburgh’s Emergency Medicine B.S. Program.
After graduating from Pitt, Tami began working for the STAT MedEvac
Communications Center. She was trained at STAT MD, Pittsburgh Medic Command, and
STAT Comm within a few months. As a communications specialist, Tami dispatches
the closest appropriate helicopter within seconds, tracks the aircraft, is
accountable for system awareness, maintains and updates NOTAMS (Notice to
Airmen), and informs the flight crew of hazards or alerts. Tami, along with her
coworkers, ensures that everything runs smoothly for the flight crew and
patient.
After working for a few years, Tami returned to the University of Pittsburgh and
earned a Master’s in Occupational Therapy. However, Tami soon realized that she
loved the adrenaline rush of having to think five steps ahead and the quick
decision making of the air medical field, and decided to continue working for
STAT MedEvac. Tami states that “I’m proud to work amongst the entire flight team
with years of experience and dedication that delivers and maintains STAT
MedEvac’s reputation, state of the art patient care, positive customer service,
and commitment to safety.”
When not overseeing 18 helicopters covering 9 states, Tami enjoys spending time
with her family in Gettysburg, going to the gym, running, listening to music,
riding motorcycles, traveling to see new places, and meeting new people. She is
learning how to knit from her mom and how to play the guitar.
